NEWS Can you Help Us?

This web site is also available as            www.metn.org.uk

In view of the virus emergency we have a message for those of you who would be willing and able to help our Blind Community.    As you may know our listeners normally receive a memory stick with the local news which they plug into an audio player.

The stick is produced by assembling a group of volunteers in one place to read the news from local papers.    As this is now not possible one of our volunteers will read the news at home and record using USB and uploading to our web site.     (Where you are now.)    What we are asking you to do is to download this audio to your computer and copy it to your relative/neighbour/friend’s memory stick.   Easy   (if you are a 10 year old!)     Start by deleting anything that is already on the stick then copy/paste from your pc download folder to the stick. Then return stick to listener after a sterilising wipe.   Disposable gloves would be an additional protection.

The audio download will be found under the “LISTEN”  tab on our home page.

The download button is under the track title.

We hope to continue doing this each week until the emergency is over.

If you do agree to help    THANK YOU VERY MUCH

We have a special message for you all. In view of the uncertain times we are living in, the Government may place a ban on meetings of any sort to try and prevent the spreading of the virus.   There would be very little, if any, notice of this.   It takes up to 10 people to produce this recording. Steps are being taken to protect the volunteers who handle the pouches and the sticks by using a sanitised wipe both on arrival and before dispatch. We hope, of course, it will not happen but if it does we will resume recording just as soon as possible. Please DO NOT return your pouch and memory stick  just yet.  We have a cunning plan!

Tony Stenger our stalwart recordin”g engineer for the past 30+ years has announced his retirement.    Tony has been at the core of our charity f was made for a “Good Causeor the past 3 decades. Tony was at the helm way back when we only produced cassette tapes and recording was often done in volunteers private houses.   He has decided that the Friday night commute is getting too much and after at least 800 journeys to and from Witham from Braintree who can blame him.    Thank you Tony for all those years, how will we manage without you?
